Shamrock, TX on old Route 66

This cute bug parked next to us last night - wanted you to see it!

Back in the 60's I drove a good bit of Route 66 on my way from California to Pennsylvania - sure glad we have the interstates now. See pictures for explanation.

We are staying two nights at 40 West RV Park just west of Shamrock, TX on Route 66. I suspect that it used to be a "cabin" motel based on what the owner told us upon check-in and the way the trees are spaced near the road. He now has 30 and 50 amp full hookup sites. We have a drive through 50 amp site that must be 90 - 100 feet long.

I have to tell you that I-40 through Oklahoma City and about 10 - 15 miles on either side is horrible. It got so bad on the west side of town that our electric sunshade on the driver's side came down again! Dean now has to figure out how to get it back up so that it stays put! If you can avoid this area, do so.

I've posted a few pictures of Shamrock, TX and also a couple of fireworks pictures from the 4th of July at Firelake Casino. I will need to practice the firework pictures, they didn't turn out very well. First thing I need to get is a tripod for my camera.

That's about all for now, see ya later.....

We have been through Shamrock numerous times, but we are usually traveling north to south on our way to Aransas Pass. Have never stopped there longer than it takes to get gas. I think your fireworks photos look great!

Keep on truckin! Travel safe!

Hey, those fireworks pics turned out super! Were you holding the camera? I've never had any turn out that well when I was holding my camera. Good job!

I thought the fireworks pictures were very good, too. Sorry about the OK roads! I think we break something everytime we go that way. I emailed the Governor with my concerns that RVers were going to avoid Oklahoma because of the roads, he forwarded it to Dept. of Transportation and I got a nice little letter from their PR person that basically said nothing. Hi Janice and Dean,

I should have looked at the pics before I jumped on by I have a link to tripod info I really found helpful. A tripod seems like a straightforward decision/purchase but you'll see how important it is here:

You amaze me when you say you drove from CA to PA in the 60's. I would love to hear your story sometime.

Safe travels!

Great fireworks pictures. From what I see you don't need a tripod. And if you did get one, where would you put it?!?!

Question - what is a 'sundog'? Is this a generational thing? (LOL)

I can't believe the roads. I was getting sick just thinking of driving on those roads. And your pictures of the fireworks are beautiful. Don't bother to get a tripod.

I also think your fireworks pictures are great. We don't go view them anymore because of mosquitos and we can't stay up that late. Ho Ho.

Thanks everyone for the compliments on the fireworks pictures. Yes, I was holding the camera - took over 400 pictures to get a few semi-good ones! I have found a tripod that I want to get, it's called a "gorillapod" (hint, hint Suze, I like the blue or yellow one). My friend Helen has one and says she like it. Thanks again!

Wow! Hannah really wants that bug!! That is her dream car and she flipped when she saw it. She unfortunately has to wait a while for a car though.. :-)
