February 1, 2006

There is light at the end of the tunnel.

We have my Dad moved into the assisted living apartment. Now all that is left is to sort, pack, and store all the extra "stuff" and get the duplex cleaned and keys turned over to the owner.

I am hoping that this will all be accomplished by the 14th - what a Valentine present that would be. Then maybe, just maybe we can finally head West!

We did take a day off last week. Spent it with Brenda and Roger, some fulltimer friends that we met in New Iberia, LA. They came here to Rainbow Plantation for a stay on their way to the Daytona 500. What fun they will have there - hope they remembered their earplugs - LOL.

We went to the National Museum of Naval Aviation at Pensacola NAS. Did a simulator ride - not so hot - have done better rides at WDW. On the other hand, the movie at the IMAX theater -Fighter Pilot - was great! After wandering through the museum, we had a light lunch at the Cubi Bar and Cafe. Good food. We then wandered around some more and checked out the gift shop. Didn't buy a thing since I couldn't think of anything that I could throw out when I got home. You know the rule - something in, something out!

We drove by the lighthouse on the base, then went out to Pensacola Beach to survey the hurricane damage. There was still quite a bit of debris around and no sand dunes. How strange it was to drive along and be able to see the Gulf. Brenda and I took a walk on the beach and collected some shells. Why, when you walk a beach do you feel like you have to bend over and pick those darn things up? Guess they will go to my granddaughter.

To end the evening we went to Smokey Bones resturant where we enjoyed ribs, pulled pork, delicious onion rings and ended the meal with their hot cinnamon donuts - ummmm.

I would post a picture of the four of us at the museum, but alas, our camera has come up missing. Sure hope we find it as I hate to spend the money for another one plus the learning to use a new one - I'm getting to old for that - LOL.

That's all for now folks. Maybe my next post will be from somewhere out West?
