Tuzigoot and Sedona

Yesterday morning Dean and I took off for Tuzigoot (pronounced to-z-goot). This is one of the more intact ruins that you can actually walk through.

"Tuzigoot is the remnant of a Southern Sinagua village built between A.D. 1125 and 1400. The original pueblo was two stories high in places and had 77 ground-floor rooms. There were few exterior doors; entry was by way of ladders through openings in the roofs." This is quoted from the flyer put out by the National Park system.

Because there is still so much of the pueblo left intact, it was easy to imagine how the people lived back then - very primitive.

Some pictures from Tuzigoot....

That's it on top of the hill....

Up close...

How it looks inside the rooms....

You can see the walls of the rooms - one per family....

It only took us about an hour to tour Tuzigoot and we didn't want to go home yet, so we decided to drive over to Sedona. This is another place, like the Grand Canyon, that pictures just don't do justice. The red rock is this area is really something to see and I again say, if your in the area, don't miss it.

After visiting the Visitor Information Center and getting a area map, we first drove to the Chapel of the Holy Cross which is built in the rocks. Beautiful, serene, peaceful are just a few words that describe it.

Here we are at the Chapel.....

Cactus in bloom.......

Wild flowers among the red rock.....

A tree growing among the red rock.....

Some of the red rock formations....... cloud cover moved in later in the day..

The above pictures are just a sampling of what you see as you drive the roads around Sedona. Hope you enjoyed the tour.

We are leaving Verde Valley on Tuesday heading for Las Vegas - the first week will be at Luke AFB Famcamp then we will move to the 1000 Trails Park for another week of fun, shows and slots? Come on back.....
