Viva Las Vegas!

We have arrived, at Las Vegas that is. This is one city that I've always wanted to visit for the sights, sounds, shows and of course that last "s" slots!

We left Verde Valley yesterday morning after saying farewell to Henry and Anne. We certainly did enjoy our three weeks with them, sightseeing, enjoying meals, talking, etc. If all goes well we will see them again in Washington state over Memorial Day Weekend.

We spend last night in Bullhead City, AZ at the county park. Not inexpensive like a lot of county park are, but we had a decent site and full hookups. This morning we discovered that there had been a haz. mat. spill just up the road (Hwy 68) from the campground. All traffic was stopped on the highway. We hitched up and got out of there before the decision was made to make up evacuate - which would mean leave the MS and drive away! Wasn't in our plans - LOL. We did have to exit by an "emergency" entrance, but that was OK with us. We just wanted out.

The drive to Las Vegas was uneventful. We arrived at Nellis AFB around noon and got dumped and set up in a electric/water only site. The Famcamp has some really nice big sites w/full hookups, but it seems they allow homesteading on them. By this I mean that there is basically no "out" time to allow someone else to get in. Reservations can be made six months in advance and the snowbirds take all these spaces from November through April. I sure with that the military famcamps had something like the 2 weeks in, one or two out rule so that all retires along with active duty would be able to utilize this benefit. Especially in a place as popular as Las Vegas. Oops, guess I got on my soapbox again :).

This afternoon the wind started blowing and now, about three hours later, you can only see clouds of dust. All the mountain ranges are obscured by the dust. I think the gusts have been around 35 mph. Sure hope it lays down by bedtime as I know it will keep me awake.

We haven't decided what all we are going to do while here, but we will have two weeks so I'm sure we will be able to see and do quite a lot. Check back in a few days for any updates.

P.S. I don't usually put requests here, but, my 87 year old Dad is having a heart procedure on the 24th of this month. I would ask that if you are so inclined, to say a prayer for his speedy recovery. Thanks

We'll keep your Dad in our thoughts and prayers.

We found that Sam's Town had a really good buffet at a decent price. We enjoyed it just about more than any other. And we had our best luck at Sam's Town casino.

Make sure you get down on the strip at night and see the Bellagio fountains. They're beautiful during the day, but they're awesome at night. And since you view them from the sidewalk, they're FREE!
