Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks

I offer no excuse for not updating my blog. I certainly have been thinking of doing it, but just keep procrastinating. Well, now is the time!

As the title says, Dean and I have visited both Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks during our stay here in Hurricane, UT. Tonight is our 6th and final night here. Tomorrow we head back to Las Vegas for one night then on to Rachel, NV (area 51 and aliens) then on to Fallon, NV which is near Reno. I doubt that I have internet for several days, so will not be posting for several days.

The day we went to Zion NP was beautiful. Nice temps., clear blue skies. We parked at the Welcome Center and boarded the shuttle bus to tour the park. Except for the winter months, this is the only way you can tour the park, but I had no complaints as the shuttle runs about every 8 minutes and you can get on and off as often as you wish and best of all, it's free.

Zion is a park where you are almost always looking up. Sheer cliffs everywhere. Here are a few pictures with captions.

One of the high "rocks" and one called the Great White Throne"....

The Weeping Rock - a very steep climb to it, but worth the effort.....the white spots against the blue sky are drops of water.....

This view was from under the rock as is the second one above.....

I'm sure your wondering - what is this? When you enlarge the picture you should be able to see a group of three climbers almost in the middle, there is also one higher up (the leader) and two lower than the group of three. We were told it takes them two days to make the climb and they sleep on hammocks hooked to the ropes at night. Gotta be crazy!!!

Now on to Bryce Canyon. Rocks is rocks is rocks is.... NOT! Every park we've been to is so different from the one before. Yes, there are rocks, but not the same.

When you drive to Bryce Canyon you also pass through Red Rocks State Park. The interesting thing here are the two "tunnels". Here are the pictures of them.....

Some of the rock formation in Red Canyon.....

Now on to Bryce Canyon. This place is so awesome. I would like to go back one day to see it again as I'm sure there are things I didn't see. The pictures below are just a sampling of what it looks like....

Here we are.......

More formations.......

This little guy bid us farewell........
