We're Still in S. Alabama

Thought I'd post a note just to let everyone know that we are still in S. Alabama.

We start the round of doctors Monday - what fun that will be. I know that I'm in for a lecture (well deserved) from my doctor because of gaining weight and not watching my sugar closer. I started on Nov 1st to watch my carbs again - meat and cheese diet for me : ( Of course I can have salad, but have to watch the dressing and that's the best part - LOL.

We haven't been doing much this past week. Just meeting the folks that are parked near us, going to a pot luck on Thursday and doing the 4 pm social a few evenings. The weather has taken a turn to cold so I don't think we'll be doing the socials this week since they are held outside.

It was really great to be back at Marlow UMC last week. Funny how you don't realize how much you miss a "home church". We visited many churches this year and always felt welcome but I guess the saying "there's no place like home" it true. This is a small country church where even the pastor wears bluejeans! We love it! Of course he does have on a shirt and tie and sport coat along with the jeans.

There are a lot of snowbirds at Rainbow Plantation even though it's not full yet. I suspect that December and January will see it getting pretty full - especially since the price of fuel is down.

We've been to our favorite fried chicken restaurant - hey it's meat - and are going to our favorite chinese restaurant today. Next weekend Suze is coming down so I suspect that her and I will go to LuLu's for crab claws (another favorite). Saturday night we are going to the Coastal Choral Christmas program. We went several years ago and it was fantastic, just not singing but a little drama and comedy thrown in.

Well, just want everyone to know that we are still kicking and praying that we can get the go ahead from the doctors to leave after the first of the year for S. Texas.

I'll be back with more news later - good I hope! Till then, travel safe......

Heading Back South

We have had a good week in Montgomery visiting with Suze, David and Morgan. Unfortunately, all good things do come to an end and we will be heading back to Baldwin County tomorrow morning. It will be great to get in touch with some of our friends that live in the area and get back to church regularly.

Next week we will begin the doctor routine by donating our blood for analysis. I hate doing that as my veins always run and hide when they come at me with the needle! Dean on the other hand is a easy stick. Why can't I be that lucky?

I will also begin to work at closing my Dad's estate. It's not that there is much as far as material items are concerned as over the past couple of years we have held several yard sales when he moved and that eliminated almost all of the furniture. The few pieces he had at the assisted living facility where claimed by my sister, niece, nephews, son and daughter when he died. It's just the strife of getting it done and behind me. I just pray it goes smoothly.

I'm anxious for the doctor stuff to be behind so we can make plans for the winter. South Texas sounds good to us, although, it's been nice here in Montgomery this week. Lows in the 40/50's and highs in the 70's. Supposed to rain today but it's needed.

I'll be back, just not sure when. I guess when ever something fun happens. Till then....

A True/False Test

It's a "True/False" test. Feel free to pass it along to others.

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, Jesus will still be King.

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, our responsibilities as Christians will not have changed one iota.

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, the greatest agent for social change in America will still be winning the hearts and minds of men and women through the gospel, not legislation.

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, my primary citizenship will still be in this order - (1) the Kingdom of God, (2) America, not vice-versa.

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, the tomb will still be empty.

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, the cross, not the government, will still be our salvation.

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, our children will still be more concerned with whether or not we spend time with them than with who is President.

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, my neighbor will still be my neighbor, and loving him/her will still be the second greatest commandment. (Do you know the first?)

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, the only way to see abortion ultimately overturned will still be winning men and women to a high view of life through the gospel of Christ.

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, the only way to see gay marriage ultimately defeated will still be winning men and women to a biblical view of marriage through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, my retirement will still not match my treasure in Heaven.

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, "Jesus Is Lord" will still be the greatest truth in the Universe.

True/False: The day after the election, regardless of who wins, we will still know that God is in control.

How did you score?

Busy, Busy In Montgomery

We arrived in Montgomery on Friday and hit the ground running on Saturday. We met up with my son and my granddaughter, Morgan, for breakfast at Waffle House. It was so good seeing them again. I couldn't get over the change in Morgan in just a couple of months. She is growing so fast! After breakfast, they had to head home so Morgan could get changed. She is a cheerleader for one of the city football teams (like little league) and they had a game in the afternoon. Since her team was in the playoffs that meant that we would get to see her in action. Yeah!!!

Meanwhile, we went back home and Suze, my daughter, came and picked us up. We had a couple of stops to make prior to going to the game so off we went. Suze had been busy all morning (politics) and didn't have time to eat so she decided she would grab a burger at Burger King before heading for the football game. Well, we were in line with about five people ahead of us when the manager came to the counter and said that there was an emergency in the store and everyone would have to leave. She repeated it again as I guess most were not really sure what she had said. Then she added that someone came in and reported that the roof was on fire and that all patrons should exit calmly single file to the outside. Out we went got in the car and drove into the shopping center parking lot so that we didn't get stuck by the fire engines when they arrived. Looking back, sure enough there was lots of smoke and you could see flames coming out of the roof! I will say one thing, the manager was very calm and handled the situation very well. The fire, we heard later was in the oven and the damage was minimal but enough to close the store for awhile. Interesting though is that this same store had been destroyed by fire awhile back and had just re-opened a few months ago!

We left the excitement behind and off to the football game we went.

It was so neat watching Morgan doing her cheers. She is a natural for cheerleading! She has the build and the talent to do well if she decides to continue on with cheerleading. She is just so darn cute!!!! Of course, as her grandmother, I'm a bit prejudice, but that's OK. I took 70 pictures of her cheering just to get the perfect one. Unfortunately there was a fence between us, so it's in all the pictures I took but I did get a couple of good ones. I'll post them on Picasa.

Sunday morning we relaxed to get ready for the afternoon. We were invited to a BBQ reception for Senator Jeff Sessions (he's one of Alabama's Senators and running for re-election) by our daughter Suze. We figured free food, why not. The weather was perfect and the food good. We met a lot of the local politicians and had a good time.

Later in the afternoon we left to go watch Morgan's cheerleading team practice for a upcoming competition. When we arrived we were shocked to see her being carried off the field to her Mom's van. I went over to see what was happening and her Mom said that she was having a hard time breathing and she was taking her to a emergency care center. I called my son who was running a errand and we took off for the center. I went back when we got there and Morgan looked so weak and was very cold to the touch. David, my son, got there so I went out to the waiting room. Their diagnosis was possible asthma. I have since found out, after her Mom took her to the Dr. that she has bronchitis and maybe asthma. Hopefully, once the bronchitis is cleared, with further tests they will find no evidence of asthma - say a prayer for her when you can.

Monday we went to Suze's to do a little laundry and then to the Probate Office to get new tags for the motorhome - ugh! I don't know why one state charges so much and others so little for the same type vehicle. If I thought that we would be living this lifestyle for another 10 - 15 years we would change our residency just to save on the cost of tags and insurance. But to do so and have one of us die would really cause a hardship on the kids so I guess we'll keep supporting Alabama.
Monday late afternoon, early evening, the Montgomery County Republican Club had a rally for several of the local candidates including Jay Love who is running for Congress. Of course, we were there, waving our signs - not sure if we made it on TV or not. We did get to meet Governor Bob Riley who Suze knows through all her political involvement along with other local politicians. We had a good time, but will be glad when all the votes are tallied and this race is behind. I know one thing, I couldn't keep up with Suze with all the running she does for these people - I sure hope that they appreciate her!

Dean, Me, Govenor Riley and Suze

Today we went to vote, met Suze for lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant and came back home to relax and get ready for this evening. Yep, another "event". Tonight is the victory (I'm being optimistic) party for the Republicans running for national and state offices here in Alabama. Well, some of them anyway. I'm hoping since the polls close at 7 pm the count will be in by 9 pm and then we can come home - wishful thinking, I'm sure. Maybe tomorrow things will slow down.
